Helping people improve their health is the most rewarding part of dentistry for me.
I was born and raised in Red Deer, Alberta. My father trained in Germany as a Cabinet maker or Millwright. Growing up, I spent a lot of time in my father’s workshop. He instilled in me the importance of craftsmanship and integrity. I have always enjoyed working with my hands and so, for me, dentistry was a great fit.
What I have learned over the years is that it is not enough for me to do the best technical work. It is also very important for me to get to know you first, to be able to recommend treatment options that are appropriate for you. To me, appropriate dental care is care that is well thought out, predictable, and unique to your goals.
I graduated from the University of Alberta – School of Dentistry in 1996. This was the beginning of my love of learning about dentistry and its many facets. I am an alumnus of the Pankey Institute, Spear Education and have been very active in Study Clubs over the past 20 years. I am also licensed by the ADA to provide IV sedation. I chose to do additional training in this area because I understand that fear is a legitimate obstacle to care. By providing support and providing sedation when needed, I have been able to help many people be successful in achieving their dental goals. I am inspired by their courage and honoured by their trust.
I have been practicing in the Calgary area since 2001. My wife, Jodi Prichard, and I owned a practice in Douglas Dale from 2002-2016. It was very rewarding to grow that practice, making many new friends and developing a great team that supported us. In order to have more time and energy for our family, my wife and I decided to sell the practice. This allowed Jodi to pursue a fine arts degree at ACAD here in Calgary and for me to join my good friend and colleague in his practice. I am very grateful to work with Dr Goel. He is truly a dedicated and compassionate person.
My children Alex and Matt are growing fast and furious. They like to keep Jodi and I on our toes. They are my main focus outside of work. I am also an avid skier and love to be outdoors as much as I can. In the summer I enjoy cycling and kayaking. Year round I practice tai chi and mindfulness.
I look forward to making many new friends at Braeside dental.
